Use Case: City of Maaseik helps customer grow – literally and digitally

During the Customer Weekend, the city of Maaseik wanted to do something different. No generic “thank you” cards or paper scratch tickets – but a phygital experience that would actually surprise people.

Across Maaseik, Neeroeteren, Opoeteren and Dorne, shoppers received a small bag of sunflower seeds. Each bag came with a QR code that linked to a digital scratch & win game. Just scan, scratch, and see if you’ve won.

Here’s how it worked:

1. Scan the QR code

2. Scratch digitally

3. Win (hopefully!) a €20 or €50 gift voucher

4. Fill in your details so the city could contact you personally.

The design and full setup of the digital scratch card were created by Coupontools. We made sure it matched the city’s look and feel, while also allowing them to easily collect participant data and insights.

The result?

• A campaign that was cheaper and more sustainable than the old paper version.

• Lots of positive feedback from residents and local merchants.

• And most importantly – a city discovering how fun and easy digital can be.

With this test, Maaseik didn’t just put their customers in the spotlight – they gave their marketing strategy a fresh new boost.
